Control The Bleed!
Get Trained. Get Equipped. Be Ready.
On October 20, more than 20 people joined Not Today Self-Defense & Firearms Training at 5.11 Tactical in Costa Mesa for our USCCA Control The Bleed class.
We covered controlling life-threatening bleeding, applying a tourniquet, using a chest seal, and packing a wound. Thank you to everyone who attended, asked questions, and invested time in becoming better prepared, and thank you to 5.11 Costa Mesa for hosting us!
One question that often comes up after training is: “What should I carry?”
For a practical starting point, consider the 5.11 UCR IFAK Pouch paired with the North American Rescue Quick Reaction Kit. The pouch keeps your medical supplies organized and accessible, with attachment options for a vehicle headrest or MOLLE platform. Medical supplies are purchased separately.
The Quick Reaction Kit includes:
• C-A-T tourniquet
• HyFin Vent Compact Chest Seal Twin Pack
• Emergency Trauma Dressing
• S-Rolled gauze
This combination provides a foundation for a trauma kit. I also recommend adding nitrile gloves and trauma shears, and keeping everyday first-aid supplies available for smaller injuries.
Both products are offered through 5.11 Tactical. Check with the 5.11 store near you for local availability.
Equipment is only part of preparation. Knowing how and when to use it matters. Take a class, practice the skills, and keep your kit somewhere you can reach it when you need it.
